Several years ago we had an abundance of pancakes for breakfast. I noticed several birds near our cabin near Mt. Rainier, so I walked out onto the deck and held a few pieces in my hand. It didn't take long for the birds to take interest. With a bit of patience they began to eat from my hands. My wife took the picture just as a bird landed on my hand!

I was born in Gold Beach, Oregon but moved to Washington State when I was four. I graduated from Issaquah High School in 1968 and from the University of Washington in 1972 with a B.S in Fisheries.
