As part owners of a mountain cabin, we love to have visitors at "Fort Jackson" - our retreat along the White River near Mt. Rainier. The cabin is nestled among tall cedar and fir trees. Some of the trees were growing when Columbus discovered America! |
Our mountain retreat
From across the
White River, our cabin fits snugly among the forest
trees.

Feeding Birds
There is a
family of mountain "Camp Robbers" - birds that frequent
camping grounds. One morning they visited our cabin and I
shared our pancakes with them. They were friendly enough
to eat from my hand!

Douglas Fir tree
We live in a
mature forest of Douglas Fir and Cedar. This is one of
the large trees near our cabin. Some of these trees are
large enough at the base that it would take three or four
people with their arms connected to encircle
them!

Cabin at first snow fall
The elevation
at the cabin is just above 2500 feet. We get up to 3 or 4
feet of snow in the winter. This was an early snowfall,
but we were still able to drive our car down to the
cabin. When the snow gets deep, we have to use a toboggan
to carry our supplies.
